“I began as a student of this course and a Holistic Living Counselling client. I was going through a really tough time personally and seeing a Holistic Living Counsellor was an amazing turning point. It really helped me regain my focus and direction and get some control back over how I was feeling at the time. After my life settled down again for a while, I was faced with some choices around my career. My background was that I had completed university studies in Psychology, but felt that this way of learning about human behaviour was not really satisfying me. I had a lot of experience in running and marketing my own business (in the fashion industry) and I had also been involved in theatre and radio. I made a decision to go back to uni and complete a Masters Degree in Marketing. 18 months into the course, although there were aspects I enjoyed and I was doing well, it just felt wrong and I felt a strong calling to do something more with my life. I was also strongly drawn to alternative healing, though I wasn’t sure why at the time. So I did a Reiki course which I loved. I started attending meditation and reading self help books and I was definitely opening some new doors in my thinking.
Throughout this period Iwas still facing some very big challenges personally, mainly in my relationships and family life. My son had been diagnosed as special needs. When I look back, I am aware that I was searching for some answers in order to heal my own life which was falling apart. Strangely, even though my own life was in shreds, people were often drawn to me for help or counselling. A friend suggested that I would make a good counsellor, and though I was surprised, the thought really resonated with me. I started looking around at courses and exploring all my options. I remembered my previous experience as a client and contacted the counsellor I had seen to ask about where I could learn to do what she did. My memories of it were very vivid and I was still in awe of the whole process. In my naivete, I thought that this was how all counselling worked, but later, trying some other forms of therapy, such as visiting a psychologist and counsellor for advice, I found this was not the case. The Holistic Living Counselling approach was unique. It was warm, welcoming, heartfelt and transformative in a way that other forms of counselling could not hope to reach.
I decided on the Holistic Living Counselling course and I loved every minute of the training. All the tears and joys that flowed through my training time felt like a homecoming. It was exactly what I needed. Once I graduated I started counselling immediately and had a steady stream of clients from the word go. I used my marketing skills to get myself ”out there” as much as possible. I ran meditation groups that quickly became self help groups and these were really amazing. I worked with organisations as a consultant in bringing a holistic approach to wellbeing. Even after the course was over, I continued to use the skills and processes I had learnt in my own life to further my personal development and make the life changes I wanted. Some important changes included giving up smoking, improving the kinds of relationships I was attracting and healing myself in order to become a happier, healthier person so that I could make a more positive contribution to my child.
Looking back now I have achieved ALL of that and much more, which feels amazing. The growth continues of course, but I can’t begin to explain how much has changed. I feel like I am living another life, one that contains all the “good stuff” instead of all the hardship and struggles of the past.
After several years of running my practise, I was approached to train in order to teach this course. This felt like an amazing gift and privilege. I began teach the on campus courses in Melbourne in 2006.
I love teaching this course and facilitating the healing and growth of others. I especially love helping others lauch themselves into work that they are sincerely passionate about and is really supportive on so many levels. I love that everyone I teach and work with has something to teach me and show me about myself.
I also love helping students and graduates find their unique niche in complimentary therapies. Everyone has a special reason for doing what they do. For me, it was about creating the best possible health and happiness for myself so that I could create the best loving home for my son. For you it might be something else that’s unique to you and close to your heart.
There is so much empowerment to be found in uncovering and following your unique purpose and passion.
I look forward to meeting and working with you in the future and helping you discover just that.”
